Diamond dressing tools

SINGLE-DIAMOND DRESSING TOOLS
The quality of a diamond depends on the number of usable points, the inclusions or cracks that it contains, and its geometry.

BC Grade: regular-shaped diamond without potentially damaging inclusions or cracks, with 4-5 usable points.
SA Grade: virtually regular-shaped diamond with a small number of inclusions or cracks and 3-4 usable points.
WA Grade: irregular-shaped diamond, standard grade with a small number of inclusions and 2-3 usable points.
DR Grade: irregular-shaped diamond with inclusions or cracks restricting its use to a single point.
Unidress: small octahedral diamonds to be consumed totally.

SHAFTS
Single-diamond tools can be manufactured with any shaft. The most commonly used shafts are cylindrical or Morse tapers. Some grinding tools required shafts which are threaded or of a specific shape. Some examples of shafts are illustrated below.

PAD-BASED MULTIPLE DRESSING TOOLS S13/3
These tools are manufactured with calibrated, selected diamonds arranged in three interlocking layers. Their elongated shape prevents the size of the surface contact area for dressing between the grinding wheel and the diamond from being too large. They are available in BG, BM and BF grades, depending on the size of the diamonds (large, medium or fine). Approx. 4 carats.

WHEEL-BASED MULTIPLE DRESSING TOOLS
TYPE 8P1
These dressing tools, which are designed to dress relatively small grinding wheels, contain 8 octahedral diamonds with extremely sharp points. Approx. 2 carats. They offer an excellent price-quality ratio compared to single-point tools.

TYPE 4/F
These dressing tools are manufactured with calibrated, selected diamonds which are elongated in shape and arranged in four rows to prevent obstructions. They are available in BG, BM and BF grades, depending on the size of the diamonds (large, medium or fine). Approx. 4 carats.

FINE-DIAMOND DRESSING TOOLS

Suitable for dressing medium- and fine-grain grinding wheels, especially when a high-quality finish is required on the workpieces, are manufactured using selected diamond powder. They can also be used to dress vitrified-bond CBN grinding wheels.

CHISEL-TYPE MULTIPLE DRESSING TOOLS

These dressing tools, produced with elongated, selected, calibrated diamonds, are used for dressing and profiling. They are manufactured in several sizes and grain sizes:

  • S 10/3 BF: width = 10 mm, fine diamonds (≅ Kt 1)
  • S 15/3 BM: width = 15 mm, medium diamonds (≅ Kt 2)
  • S 20/3 BG: width = 20 mm, large diamonds (≅ Kt 2.5)

PROFILING TOOLS

These profiling tools, which are used when the geometrical profiling requirements of the grinding wheel exclude the use of ordinary single or multiple diamonds, are manufactured with triangular diamonds of a high grade of pureness, without cracks. The figure illustrates the type used in Diaform machinery. They are manufactured with various angles and radiuses, according to the customer’s specifications. In addition to tools for Diaform machinery, we also produce profiling tools for other manufacturers’ grinding equipment such as Shaudt, Jung, Fortuna, MSO, Naxos Union and Niles.
